On Saturday, last weekend, I was invited to a field investigation conducted by a paranormal team I have been interviewing for my book. The investigation was at a home in DeKalb, Illinois, which was reportedly haunted and the owners of the property were being “victimized”. The Crossroads House, as it has become known in paranormal circles, is located demographically in the center of a triangle at which each corner is occupied by, to the northeast St.Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, to the south Oakwood Cemetery, and to the southeast the remnants of an old asylum, which is now renovated and used for office space by the St. Mary’s Catholic Charities. All three locations are rumored to be haunted, but more on that in my soon to be released book.
I would like to share an extraordinary experience, which took place during the investigation. A Psychic/Medium had been called in to the investigation. I was unaware of the Psychic’s involvement until a day prior to the investigation. She – the Psychic – was unaware I was going to be observing the investigation. Midway through her reading of the home (we had yet to be formally introduced) she walked up to me and said, “You have a Native American Spirit standing beside you. He is a shaman. He says, ‘You have the gift and it is okay to embrace it.’ ” He is Apache and he says he is your, great-great grandfather. I have never shared with the paranormal group that I am of Native American Indian ancestry – Chiricahua Apache. This is not the extraordinary experience I was referring to; this just leads up to the “weirdness” of the experience.
I will not share everything she said that evening, as it is personal, and many things she shared have yet to prove themselves. One area I personally have difficulty with is skepticism and I look for proof in truths. If the things she said come true, like you, I am more apt to believe. If they do not, I begin to look for the reason as to why they may not have come true. Did I interfere with fate? If it was it not in the cards, why not, and why was she (or any psychic) convinced it was in the cards? Hence, not sharing all she said.
This is the experience I was referring to, the Psychic turned to me at one point and asked, “Do you know an Irene?” To which I nodded yes. After a moment’s hesitation, with her eyes closed, hands – palm side up at her waist, she said, “I didn’t forget, happy birthday!” Stunned, immediately I responded, “What did you say?” The Psychic opened her eyes, looked at me, and said, “Someone said to tell you ‘Happy birthday, they didn’t forget!’”
The hair on the back of my neck stood up, and a chill ran down my spine. There was positively no way anyone outside of my home, beside my wife and I, who knew my birthday wish I made just four days prior to Saturday’s investigation. On the eve of my birthday, following dinner at home, while preparing to have celebratory cake, my wife said, “Make a wish.” I said, “The only thing I wish for this year is that I hear from Irene, you know, the way she would always call me and say, ‘I didn’t forget, happy birthday!’
Irene was a good friend, a best friend. Irene passed away nine days prior to my birthday. It has been a difficult loss. Albeit there are ways, such as internet searches, and people could have known of her departure, however, there is positively no way on earth I can explain how a Psychic, someone I never met before that field investigation on Saturday evening, ever knew about my conversation with my wife regarding my birthday wish to hear a birthday greeting from our recently deceased friend.
Strange anomalies such as these, and others before these, have inspired me to write a book about the paranormal and the metaphysical. How do you account for unexplainable occurrences where reality and the inconceivable clash, and the laws of reason and logic are mystified, a place where knowledge and rationale have no jurisdiction? Mine is just one story in millions, and if through my book I can aspire to unveil a new understanding to a dimension, which has not been considered, I have exceeded my goals. For now, I will continue poking away at the keys on the laptop, interviewing, and collecting research materials. One day, perhaps, it will all make sense to me, and to those who read my book.
This has been a … View From My Loft
I enjoyed this post very much, Dane. I look forward to seeing the book out ASAP!
Thanks for the encouragement, ginaray! I look forward to it too.
